Return of the Negretti & Zambras Stick Barometer to Main Street Schull
Almost 122 years ago, this Barometer was gifted to the people of Schull by the London Meteorological Office following lectures given by a Captain Tomby, on the advantages of such a Barometer to fishermen and seafarers.
It has had many homes over the last 122 years until Cork County Council became guardians of it for the last decade or so. With the help of some persistent locals, a special window was built for its reinstatement on the Main Street next to the Present Company shop.
Cork County Council released the Barometer into the guardianship of Schull & District Community Council.
This Barometer has great historical significance and value and once again it can be enjoyed and appreciated by its owners, the people of Schull.
